Ericsson Initiates WCDMA/HSPA Pilot Project in Rural India

According to Dow Jones, Swedish Ericsson announced on September 19 the inception of its Gramjyoti Rural Broadband Project, which aims to develop a comprehensive mobile Internet ecosystem based on WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access)/HSPA (High-Speed Packet Access) technology in rural India. Beginning in early September 2007, this project is reported to enable the access of broadband applications via mobile phones for India's rural population living in 18 villages and 15 towns close to Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu.
